KBA Update - September 2020

Updated: Oct 5

Dear KBA members,

We hope you have all been safe and well during these times. We have been monitoring the State Government’s roadmap as well as Basketball Victoria’s return to play plan. The KBA is also in close contact with local councils and schools to prepare the return to play. As we receive updates we will ensure to pass on the information and keep our members updated. Currently, we are in step 2 of the Government’s roadmap and at this stage the return to basketball dates are yet to be announced. While we wait for the return to Basketball date, the KBA Board and KBA Staff have been preparing a smooth return. Below is a list of updates and improvements that the KBA has been working on: • The KBA office has undergone a restructure to align job and member roles with KBA’s goals and values. This includes hiring a General Manager to oversee the operations and strategic planning of the KBA. We are down to the final stages of hiring our General Manager and will be making an announcement on this soon. • The KBA has been meeting with our Junior Domestic clubs monthly to discuss improvements, ideas and the return to play. Our Director of Coaching has also been running Domestic skill Zoom sessions on a Saturday. For those that cannot attend these sessions, we have been posting the session plan on our Facebook page. • For Rep our KBA staff have set up regular Zoom Skills sessions for our VJBL players. These sessions are free and accessible to all rep players. We have also been posting weekly, at home Skill sessions players can do in their own time on our socials. • Our head coaches for the 2021 season have been announced. The Big V coaches have been selected, please look out for the announcement. Discussions have already begun around the new season with regular meetings starting to occur. • Virtual Mini Thunder has successfully started on Monday and Friday nights. We want to ensure that the next generation of basketballers are given the right start and guidance. • The KBA understands that these times are very difficult. We continue to reach out to our referees to oversee their wellbeing. • The KBA alongside our major sponsors Baller Boys, Metro Motor Mechanics/Metro Automotive Group & Cranwell Collision, are working on initiatives to support the mental wellbeing of our members. • The KBA will be releasing Monthly Newsletters so our members will have regular updates and insights to the operations of the KBA. We also are planning to set up a Podcast to inform our members and players on the pathways we offer.

The KBA would like to thank all our members for their continued support, especially during these difficult times. We understand that it has been frustrating, but we want to ensure our members that we are working hard to get you back on the court safely and quickly. The KBA respects and appreciates any feedback you may have. We have generated a poll for our members to provide feedback and expectations of the KBA. We have separated the Survey into three categories, Junior Domestic, Senior Domestic and VJBL/BigV:

Senior Domestic Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RFJ2DGM
